5. How do I store my coffee?
Coffee does not need to be stored in the refrigerator, in fact this is not recommended since coffee absorbs odors and flavors from other foods. Coffee should be stored in an airtight container or ziplock bag to maintain it's freshness and keep out unwanted odors. If you keep your coffee longer than a month, it is suggested you keep it in an airtight container in the freezer. Do not store dark roasts in the freezer.
6. What does the "Flavor" of coffee mean?
This describes the attributes of the coffee, each being unique. Flavor is influenced by different factors such as where it is grown, (geographically), the soil conditions, the milling process, and the roasting process.
7. What does the "Body" of coffee mean?
Body is the weight of the coffee as perceived by the palate. It ranges from light to medium to heavy.
8. What does the "Acidity" of coffee mean?
Amount of acidity determines how long the flavor remains on the palate. The lower the acidity, the longer it will linger on your tongue, and the higher the acidity, the faster the flavor leaves the tongue.
9. What is the difference between coffee "Roasts"?
Coffee can be roasted at varying levels resulting in unique differences in flavor. The types of roasts include:
Full City Roast: Light to medium brown in color with little to no surface oils. This roast is very popular as it displays very nicely all of the natural flavors of the bean.
Vienna Roast: Dark brown in color with visible flavor oils on the surface. The most pronounced flavors of this roast are bittersweet and tangy.
French Roast: A very dark coffee with a significant amount of surface oils. You will experience a rich, smokey flavor with this roast.
10. What does coffee "Overtones" mean?
Overtones refers to the amount of distinct undertones and overtones. The complexity of coffee flavor can be described in terms of having a berry, chocolate, caramel, nut, smoke, wood, fruit, citrus or wood tone.
